When medical cannabis business Compassionate Cultivation opens Texas’ first licensed medical cannabis dispensary on Feb. 8, the organization will also be launching its first line of cannabis-derived medicine. And that line of medical products, Lone Star, is a panel of condition-specific CBD tinctures that are specially formulated and lab tested to treat qualifying patients with intractable epilepsy under the Texas Compassionate Use Act.

“Compassionate Cultivation is dedicated to producing the highest quality medicine in the state of Texas, with plants grown and refined by our cultivation and engineering experts at our state-of-the-art facility,” CEO Morris Denton said. “We are proud to offer patients a high-quality product line, priced fairly and competitively, in a framework that gives patients choice, transparency and full disclosure.”

The Lone Star line of cannabis tinctures are made from CO2-extracted cannabis oil, USP-grade MCT Oil and food-grade essential oil flavoring. Each product contains 100 mg CBD and 5 mg THC per 1 mL of tincture. The Lone Star line comes in three flavors – cherry, mint and unflavored – and is available in two sizes for added convenience and flexibility: 7.5 mL (containing 750 mg CBD / 37.5 mg THC), priced at $105; and 15 mL (containing 1,500 mg CBD / 75 mg THC), priced at $200.

Approximately one-third of patients diagnosed with epilepsy don’t respond well to standard pharmaceutical treatments. But preliminary research indicates cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant, may effectively reduce seizure frequency and severity in patients suffering with intractable epilepsy. CBD affects multiple targets, has a high toxicity threshold, and offers a new approach to activating agents that affect novel neurotransmitters.

Based on studies demonstrating promising treatment results for patients with intractable epilepsy, Compassionate Cultivation’s high-purity extracts are formulated with high CBD levels, very low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the psychoactive compound found in cannabis – and minimal inactive ingredient additives.

“We utilize hydrocarbon-free, high-purity CO2 extraction processes to create all of our CBD medicine,” said Chris Woods, director of processing at Compassionate Cultivation processing partner Xabis. “Our pure-plant oil extracts undergo a series of purification steps, distillation and chromatography to produce highly pure CBD oils and isolate individual cannabinoids, enabling us to target true pharmaceutical formulations.”

Compassionate Cultivation believes product transparency is an integral component to providing patients with high-quality, consistent CBD medicine. And all products are rigorously tested for purity and potency in accordance with state and federal regulations, and packaged under strict consumer safety guidelines.

“We utilize the best instrumentation and analytical methods to ensure our products are all free of heavy metals, microbials and chemical contaminants, and are clearly labeled with cannabinoid compositions and batch information, enabling patients to know they use using consistent, safe medicine,” Woods said.

Each Lone Star tincture is delivered to patients in tamper-evident, child-resistant amber glass bottles, with fully-labeled boxes and sealed bags containing product information pamphlets and a 1 mL medical-grade polypropylene syringe for easy dosing.

Starting Feb. 8, Compassionate Cultivation’s Lone Star product line will be available for purchase by state-registered patients and guardians at the dispensary, located at 12701 Lowden Lane in Manchaca, and via delivery service that accommodates patients across the state. The dispensary will be open Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m to 7 p.m., and also by appointment. Deliveries will be conducted Sunday through Tuesday each week.
