AUSTIN, Texas—Jan. 22, 2019—In response to the ongoing partial federal government shutdown, leading Texas medical cannabis provider Compassionate Cultivation is deferring costs of CBD medicine to qualifying patients and their families.
“This is a difficult time for Texans who are affected by the federal government shutdown,“ said Morris Denton, Compassionate Cultivation’s CEO. “To ensure our patients don’t lose access to vital medicine, we will be deferring the costs of Compassionate Cultivation CBD oil until the shutdown is over.”
At least 35,000 Texans work for federal agencies that are not paying employees as a result of the shutdown:
The company urged qualifying patients to reach out to Compassionate Cultivation’s dispensary staff immediately. They will need to provide a copy of their furlough notification, which can be obtained through the U.S. Department of State. Deferred costs include CBD medicine and any applicable delivery charges, and will continue until federal employees are back on the payroll.
Compassionate Cultivation is one of three licensed businesses operating under the Texas Compassionate Use Program, which allows patients with intractable epilepsy to receive CBD medicine with a prescription. The company makes low-THC extract formulations rich in cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating component of cannabis scientifically shown to reduce seizures, among other medical benefits.
